Let’s understand the idea.
- Ten is a useful stopping place because its frame is full.
- For 8 plus 6, move 2 from the 6 to fill the ten. There are 4 left, so ten and four make fourteen.
- For 13 take away 4, first remove 3 to reach ten. Remove the remaining 1 to reach nine.
