Let’s understand the idea.
- A pair has two objects. Give each counter one partner.
- An even number leaves no unpaired counter. An odd number leaves exactly one.
- Moving the counters does not change odd or even. Zero is even: no counter is left unpaired.
Something to notice
Ask the learner to pair a new collection, explain odd/even without relying only on the final digit, arrange their own rectangle and connect each addend to a complete row or column.
