Let’s understand the idea.
- A row runs across and a column runs down. In a rectangular array, each position holds one object.
- Columns tell how many objects are in each row. Rows tell how many objects are in each column. Multiply these counts to find all the objects.
- When the total and one dimension are known, use division or a missing factor to find the other dimension. Read which quantity the question asks for.
Something to notice
Ask the learner to point to a row and a column, explain why the number of columns equals the objects in one row, and create a different situation for the same array. Six questions use the guided planner; two remove the target/equation choices and ask for a numerical answer with the original drawing available. This partial fading does not establish unassisted transfer or mastery. Other contexts are addressed in separate lessons; educator/learner review remains necessary.
