Let’s understand the idea.

  1. When the whole is the same, fractions with the same denominator use equal-sized parts. Compare how many of those parts each amount has.
  2. With the same positive numerator, compare the part sizes. Dividing the same whole into more equal parts makes each part smaller. Zero copies of any unit still makes zero.
  3. Use <, = or > and explain the size relationship. Different physical whole sizes can change the areas represented by the fractional names.

Something to notice

Ask the learner to justify an unfamiliar comparison using a common whole, and distinguish fractional numbers from areas taken from different-sized wholes. The API requires both a comparison symbol and an authored correct reasoning choice for structured questions. It does not judge spontaneous speech or proof. Unequal numerators and denominators beyond simple equivalence are later-grade work.
