Let’s understand the idea.

  1. First understand the story and find any amount needed for the next step. An estimate and an exact answer describe the same situation in different ways.
  2. Use the rounding place stated in the question. Keep a small group count exact when asked, and keep the same operations and relationships.
  3. Compare the estimate with the exact answer. A very different size can reveal an error, but a nearby estimate alone does not prove an answer is right.

Something to notice

Eight structured calculations prescribe a rounding method, giving a well-defined estimated answer alongside the exact answer. Two reasoning MCQs distinguish a useful size check from proof and catch an impossible increase after removal. Oral explanations, choosing an estimation method without a prompt, alternative valid approaches and educator/learner review remain additional evidence. A completed plan is not proof of mastery.
