Let’s understand the idea.
- Identify what each number measures or counts, and name the missing quantity before calculating.
- Combine or remove amounts in the same unit. For equal groups, distinguish how many groups there are from how much each group contains.
- Division can find the amount in each group or the number of groups. The story determines the answer's unit or thing counted.
- Amount bars represent quantities. Moving or partitioning a bar preserves its amount; adding or removing material changes the amount.
Something to notice
Ask the learner to choose an operation and explain the requested quantity in an unfamiliar practical g/kg/L problem. The API checks numerical quantities and their requested units/counts; it does not judge spontaneous speech or physical measuring. Models preserve same-unit quantities and exact group relationships. The bank uses whole-number amounts and exact quotients; unit conversions, geometric volume and multiplicative comparison are outside this Grade 3 expectation.
