Let’s understand the idea.
- Fractions can give different names to the same number. Keep the reference whole fixed and compare the selected lengths or number-line endpoints.
- Splitting every part into equal smaller pieces changes the unit name and copy count together. Grouping neighboring pieces can give a larger unit. The amount stays fixed.
- Whole numbers have fraction names too. One whole can be 1/1, 2/2 or 8/8; two wholes can be 2/1, 4/2 or 16/8.
Something to notice
Ask the learner to explain what changes and what stays fixed when a fraction is renamed, then generate a new requested form and connect a whole number to its fraction names. The API evaluates exact values and requested units, plus authored reasoning choices; spontaneous explanations require observation. Comparisons follow separately.
