Let’s understand the idea.

  1. Before calculating, check what the answer counts. A total for every group is different from an amount for each group.
  2. Use mental relationships as size checks: removal cannot increase an available collection, and a total must include every contributing part.
  3. A rounding route retains the story’s operations. Different stated rounding places can give different coherent estimates; small group counts stay exact here.
  4. Bounds give a range that must contain the answer. A number outside the range is ruled out; being inside it does not prove exactness.
  5. Rebuild the original amount to check a proposed answer: combine equal shares, restore removals or undo changes with their original units.

Something to notice

These tasks evaluate mental size checks, all coherent methods among supplied alternatives and the implications of explicit bounds. They accept both valid listed rounding routes. They do not evaluate arbitrary learner-written estimation methods, prove retention or substitute for constructing a numerical rounding plan. The existing unassessed library experiment compares tens/hundreds estimates with exact counts; Grade 4 calculation-route construction remains additional work.
