Let’s understand the idea.

  1. Compare measures only when their reference units match.
  2. A whole contains one hundred hundredths, even when the amount is greater than one.
  3. Different decimal spellings can name equal amounts.

Something to notice

Ask the learner to justify a fresh comparison using equal units or the first different place. For unknown ribbon wholes, ask what information is missing and why a larger share need not be a longer piece. Child, educator, physical, oral and retained-learning evidence remains pending.

Try it. Change it. Explain it.

Open the lesson to use its pictures and controls. In How it works, connect the picture to the idea. In Play & discover, change the quantities and notice what stays the same. In Your turn, answer questions and use the explanation to check your reasoning.

You can ask for help, draw on the thinking pad, or listen to the question and answer options. Progress distinguishes independent work from work completed with help.
