The missing zero detective
Repair misplaced digits by restoring every named place.
Explore this lesson →6 practice questions · Optional read aloud · Thinking pad
Let’s understand the idea.
- Read the given name before looking at the mistaken draft.
- Assign each digit to its named place rather than squeezing digits together.
- Write zero in every empty column of the requested place chart.
- Read the completed numeral back against the original name to check the repair.
Something to notice
Ask which digits moved when a zero disappeared and how that changed their values. Have the learner explain why each restored zero belongs in its column, then write the numeral without the chart. Correct repair of a supplied draft is practice; creating and explaining a new example shows more about understanding.
Try it. Change it. Explain it.
Open the lesson to use its pictures and controls. In How it works, connect the picture to the idea. In Play & discover, change the quantities and notice what stays the same. In Your turn, answer questions and use the explanation to check your reasoning.
You can ask for help, draw on the thinking pad, or listen to the question and answer options. Progress distinguishes independent work from work completed with help.
