8 practice questions · Optional read aloud · Thinking pad

Let’s understand the idea.

  1. A supplied record may omit a region or use the wrong place-unit value.
  2. Check every first-part and second-part pair, not just the largest and smallest.
  3. Use the original factors to check what each region represents.
  4. Add every corrected partial product once. A plausible total does not repair an incorrect region.

Something to notice

Ask the learner to explain how a missing region is located and why a wrong partial has the wrong value. Most of this record is supplied support; a repaired record is different evidence from independently constructing an entire method.

Try it. Change it. Explain it.

Open the lesson to use its pictures and controls. In How it works, connect the picture to the idea. In Play & discover, change the quantities and notice what stays the same. In Your turn, answer questions and use the explanation to check your reasoning.

You can ask for help, draw on the thinking pad, or listen to the question and answer options. Progress distinguishes independent work from work completed with help.
