Let’s understand the idea.
- Read the whole block from its first slot to its last. Repeat that exact order.
- Two circles in a block occupy two separate slots. Keep both when repeating and counting.
- Position 1 uses the first slot. The end of a complete block uses its last slot; the next position starts a new block.
- To count shapes in the first several positions, count every complete block and then any remaining slots. Some shape counts can be zero in a short beginning.
Something to notice
Ask the learner to point to each slot, including repeated shapes, and explain where the next block begins. In a four-slot block, ask which slots positions 28 and 29 use and why. Try a new block with a repeated shape and compare a complete-block count with a partial-block count. Correct selections and totals are useful practice evidence; listen for an explanation that keeps every slot in order.
Try it. Change it. Explain it.
Open the lesson to use its pictures and controls. In How it works, connect the picture to the idea. In Play & discover, change the quantities and notice what stays the same. In Your turn, answer questions and use the explanation to check your reasoning.
You can ask for help, draw on the thinking pad, or listen to the question and answer options. Progress distinguishes independent work from work completed with help.
