Let’s understand the idea.
- Decimal notation and fractions can name the same measured amount.
- The requested denominator names the equal parts in one whole.
- A trailing fractional zero does not change the value: the same amount can be named with tenths or hundredths when it fits.
Something to notice
Ask the learner to explain the whole, tenth and hundredth in a fresh example. For a line, ask what zoom changes and what stays one metre. Observe their marker separately from their written entry. Child, educator, physical, oral and retained-learning evidence remains pending.
Try it. Change it. Explain it.
Open the lesson to use its pictures and controls. In How it works, connect the picture to the idea. In Play & discover, change the quantities and notice what stays the same. In Your turn, answer questions and use the explanation to check your reasoning.
You can ask for help, draw on the thinking pad, or listen to the question and answer options. Progress distinguishes independent work from work completed with help.
