Let’s understand the idea.

  1. Rounding compares an original amount with nearby multiples of the requested place.
  2. An exact halfway tie goes to the greater multiple; an amount already at a multiple stays there.
  3. Always return to the original when changing the requested place. Different original amounts can have the same rounded value.

Something to notice

Ask the learner to mark a new original between neighbouring multiples, explain a halfway choice and give a different original with the same rounded result. Record actual reasoning, assistance and prior exposure; software completion does not establish independent understanding.

Try it. Change it. Explain it.

Open the lesson to use its pictures and controls. In How it works, connect the picture to the idea. In Play & discover, change the quantities and notice what stays the same. In Your turn, answer questions and use the explanation to check your reasoning.

You can ask for help, draw on the thinking pad, or listen to the question and answer options. Progress distinguishes independent work from work completed with help.
