Let’s understand the idea.
- Measure from zero and find the nearest whole-unit mark. A measurement need not end exactly on a mark.
- Keep one record for every object, even when two lengths match.
- An X above a length stands for one measurement. Stack matching measurements; keep the length scale equally spaced.
Something to notice
Invite the learner to choose a few real objects, measure them with a ruler and record every result, including repeated lengths. Ask them to make their own graph title and labels. For a line plot, have them point from each recorded length to its X; for a picture or bar graph, ask what one picture or one interval means. Keep categories with no votes visible, and compare two groups using the same unit. These example graphs are practice data, not results collected from a class. The on-screen strips are scaled pictures, not actual-size rulers, and their endpoints avoid halfway marks. Watch the learner align a real ruler with zero, choose the nearest whole-unit mark and explain the result in their own words. A finished screen graph does not show how they handle a ruler, write labels or explain a new set of data.
