6 practice questions · Optional read aloud · Thinking pad

Let’s understand the idea.

  1. Stage 1 has one tile above another. These two stacked tiles make one column. At each new stage, keep every tile and add a column just like it on the right.
  2. The stage tells how many columns to build. The tile count is a different quantity.
  3. What else do you notice about the tile totals? Show it in your path before reading a supplied explanation.

Something to notice

Offer the garden observation before feature choices or explanations. Record actual support and prior exposure; selected explanations do not prove independent discovery.

Try it. Change it. Explain it.

Open the lesson to use its pictures and controls. In How it works, connect the picture to the idea. In Play & discover, change the quantities and notice what stays the same. In Your turn, answer questions and use the explanation to check your reasoning.

You can ask for help, draw on the thinking pad, or listen to the question and answer options. Progress distinguishes independent work from work completed with help.
