6 practice questions · Optional read aloud · Thinking pad

Let’s understand the idea.

  1. Different reports may need different precision from the same exact amount.
  2. Return to the original before rounding each row.
  3. Changing the target changes the neighboring multiples and midpoint.
  4. A broader rounding need not move the estimate in the same direction as a narrower one.

Something to notice

Ask why two rows can round in different directions even though the original did not change. Watch whether the learner returns to the original or accidentally uses the previous row's estimate. Some teaching counts repeat earlier cases to connect ideas; use an unfamiliar amount to check whether the idea transfers.

Try it. Change it. Explain it.

Open the lesson to use its pictures and controls. In How it works, connect the picture to the idea. In Play & discover, change the quantities and notice what stays the same. In Your turn, answer questions and use the explanation to check your reasoning.

You can ask for help, draw on the thinking pad, or listen to the question and answer options. Progress distinguishes independent work from work completed with help.
