Let’s understand the idea.
- Close to the next number does not mean the next hour has arrived.
- At 2:59 the short hand has almost reached 3. One minute later it reaches 3 and the clock reads 3:00.
- The dial goes from 11 to 12 to 1. Move one minute earlier and later to explore each boundary.
Something to notice
Ask the learner to read and set an unfamiliar physical analog clock to the nearest minute, explain each hand and write the digital time. Observe real-clock transfer and independent explanation. These lessons address the clock-reading part of 3.MD.A.1; duration, start/end-time stories and number-line reasoning are separate requirements.
