Let’s understand the idea.
- Read the requested place and whether the task asks for an estimate, distances, possible originals or two routes.
- Keep exact originals separate from rounded reports.
- Use neighboring multiples and the halfway convention consistently at every scale.
- Check the answer against the report's meaning, including zero and the one-million boundary.
Something to notice
Let the learner attempt a fresh problem before opening help. Ask which rounding idea carries over from earlier work and why. Revisit new amounts later and include a spoken explanation; this mixed practice samples the same families with new inputs rather than establishing retention by itself.
Try it. Change it. Explain it.
Open the lesson to use its pictures and controls. In How it works, connect the picture to the idea. In Play & discover, change the quantities and notice what stays the same. In Your turn, answer questions and use the explanation to check your reasoning.
You can ask for help, draw on the thinking pad, or listen to the question and answer options. Progress distinguishes independent work from work completed with help.
